The new service ‘Mahea’ has been designed to expand the continuum of support, treatment and therapy available for young people experiencing distress and promote early detection and intervention to prevent the escalation of mental health issues for youth. Mahea is a collaboration between Te Taiwhenua o Heretaunga, Kahungunu Executive, Whatever It Takes Trust and Emerge Aotearoa. These four organisations have partnered to deliver Mahea to youth across the Hawke’s Bay region. This is an exciting opportunity for a Kai Ringahora Rangatahi/Youth Peer Support Worker to be part of a Youth Mental Health and Addictions team to contribute to positive outcomes for youth. Te Kai Ringahora Rangatahi will offer peer support and work in partnership with other members of the Mahea team to empower, motivate and build the resilience of rangatahi/youth and support their journey towards achieving Mauri Ora. The successful applicant will: Hold (or be working towards) a Level 4 qualification in Mental Health and Addictions and/or; Hold any relevant qualification relating to education, health, mental health or social services Have knowledge and experience working with youth and whanau Have experience working in the education, health, mental health or social services sectors Be able to build rapport and trust, and establish meaningful relationships with youth and whanau Be well connected to the youth sector through already established networks and connections Have an ability to support youth by connecting them with appropriate youth friendly health, education, community or social services to achieve positive outcomes Be able to motivate, educate, empower, coach and influence whānau Hold a clean, current and valid Full Driver’s License Children’s Worker Safety Check (including Police Vetting) with no history that would require exemption If you want to make a real difference to the health and well-being of youth and whanau in our local community, send your application to us today.
