
About this Role
As an Addictions Practitioner – Pou Ora Wairoa, you will play a vital role in supporting whānau affected by methamphetamine, alcohol, and other drug-related challenges.
Working within our Kaupapa Māori Oranga Hinengaro and Addiction Service, you will provide assessment, intervention, treatment, advocacy, and recovery support using a strengths-based, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive approach.
This community-based role focuses on empowering whānau to reduce harm, strengthen wellbeing, build resilience, and achieve their aspirations through meaningful connections, coordinated support, and sustainable recovery pathways.

Key Responsibilities
Working alongside whānau to provide assessment, treatment, advocacy, and recovery support services, while developing individual care plans, coordinating access to community services, and delivering culturally responsive, strengths-based support.
The role also involves maintaining accurate records, collaborating with partner agencies, and contributing to continuous service improvement to help achieve positive and sustainable outcomes for whānau.
What We're Looking For
We're seeking a passionate and motivated professional who is committed to supporting whānau to achieve positive and sustainable wellbeing outcomes.
You will bring experience or knowledge in the alcohol and other drug, mental health, health, or social services sectors, along with the ability to build trusted relationships and work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
A strong understanding of tikanga Māori, excellent communication skills, and a strengths-based, solution-focused approach are essential.
Most importantly, you'll be someone who is compassionate, resilient, and dedicated to making a meaningful difference in the lives of whānau and the wider community.
Desirable
While not essential, knowledge of Kaupapa Māori models of health, Results Based Accountability (RBA), and relevant health and social service legislation would be advantageous.
Experience working within addiction, mental health, health, or community-based services, along with established networks across the sector, will be highly regarded.
