About the opportunity | Ko te āheinga:
The primary purpose of the Kaitakawaenga is to provide a safe and welcoming environment to provide support for mama Hapū and mama with pepi (including their partners and whānau) to achieve Whānau Ora. The Kaitakawaenga will establish a supportive and effective working relationship with mama, their whānau and other health and social services to deliver whānau centred care that empowers them to achieve their aspirations through using a strength-based approach for the first 2000 days of pepi’s life.
The key objective of the service is to provide access to:

Programmes that are delivered upon Te Ao Māori principles and practices

Pregnancy advice, support and care

Parenting advice and support
-
Health, Oranga Hinengaro and Social Services support

Relationship counselling and support
The desired outcomes for this service are for Wairoa mama and their whānau to have:

Strengthened cultural identity and capability

Healthy whānau relationships

Improved maternal health outcomes for Māori mothers and their pēpi

Improved maternal Oranga Hinengaro outcomes
-
Better access to pregnancy related care and support

A reduction in inequities in maternal health outcomes

Support to make informed decisions about their health and well-being
About you | E pā ana ki a koe:
We are looking for a worker that is passionate about supporting wāhine, pēpi, and their whānau through a kaupapa Māori approach to wellbeing. You must have strong experience or qualifications in health, mental health, or social services, and are confident working in culturally grounded, whānau-centred ways.
You’ll be skilled at building trusting relationships across diverse backgrounds, with excellent interpersonal, communication, and organisational abilities. You’re comfortable using assessment tools, developing support plans, and navigating changing priorities.
Proficiency in Te Reo me ōna Tikanga is highly desirable, and a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi is essential.
This role requires a high level of initiative, are confident using Microsoft applications, and are committed to ongoing professional development.
A full, clean driver’s licence and clear police vetting are required.
